Reminder! Glaziers have until 5/31/25 to Complete Continuing Ed. Requirements to Stay Grandfathered

As per the Glaziers’ collective bargaining agreement (CBA), Glaziers are required to complete 8 hours of continuing education per year or their wage and benefits package will revert to the 80% Journeyperson’s rate.

The date to complete these hours is May 1st, 2025. Below are a couple of links to classes that will satisfy the requirements.

NOTE: most of these are 4 hour classes so at least 2 will need to be completed prior to the deadline.

WHAT CLASSES ARE OFFERED?

Classes are designed to appeal to a wide audience and include important topics like blueprint interpretation or intermediate hardware. You also have the option to request a welding training if interested, please reach out to AGMA directly if welding is something you’d like to encourage for your employees.

WHERE ARE CLASSES OFFERED?

The majority of classes are offered at the DC 21 training center in Northeast Philadelphia. However, there are now classes being offered at historic Boardwalk Hall in downtown Atlantic City. Right now the offering is small, but with increased interest will come increased opportunities.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN ABOUT THE CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT?

If a Glazier wants to maintain MECHANIC rate, the requirement is 8 hours/per year for the length of the Glazier’s career. The year (s)he doesn’t keep it up, (s)he will “fall back” to the JOURNEYPERSON category (80% of wage/package) and (s)he would stay there until the required training is complete.

IF the Glazier has Architectural Glass & Metal Technician (AGMT) certification, they would just need to take the 8 hours to qualify for MECHANIC (top rate again).

HOWEVER, if the Glazier is grandfathered and do not have AGMT and they “fall back”, they would have to get AGMT plus 8 hours to get back to full rate. That’s a big lift, so it behooves grandfathered glaziers to not fall behind.
