On November 8th and 9th, 25 Philadelphia area architects participated in the Architectural Glass Institute (AGI)’s Architectural Glass Boot Camp. The program began with a hard hat tour of the Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children Inpatient Expansion project in Wilmington, DE with a focus on the radius unitized curtain wall assembly (including diagonal tubular sun shades and custom aluminum panels) being installed onsite.
Saturday’s full day hands-on workshop included the fabrication of a water-managed, stick curtain wallassembly. Participants gained an understanding of cutting and laying out extruded aluminum framing, installing shear blocks, gaskets and zone dams, applying applicable sealants, setting of glass, running backer rod, and creating structure and weather seal joints. Additional workshop activities included cutting and polishing of glass and virtual welding.
