Governor Wolf just announced that both residential and commercial construction will be permitted to reopen on May 8th under additional strict requirements. Projects will have to commit to continue social distancing in addition to adhere to strict guidelines, which the administration will be releasing shortly.
The Governor wrote: Limited construction activity is authorized to commence in-person operations statewide beginning on May 8, 2020. In speaking on today’s amendment to the “Order of the Governor regarding the closure of all businesses that are not life sustaining”, he was clear his new guidelines will not permit projects to resume operations as they were in February – but do represent a step toward reopening construction projects. Wolf said “I want to caution that we will not be resuming operations as they were in February. We’re going to continue to take precautions that limit our physical contact with others, and we will closely monitor this to see if it can be done safely.” There has not yet been word from Philadelphia Mayor Kenney’s office to confirm that the Governor’s order would apply to construction activity in the City of Philadelphia as well. It’s been noted the City will review the details of the safety protocols and announce its position as soon as possible. AGMA will send an update as those guidelines become available. |
